The oldest theater group in Orlando, who is completely dedicated to new works, has made a big move forward by hiring the first staff. The Playwrights round table, established in 1997, is trying to expand its reach to specify Chuck Dent as the first executive director.
“This is a big deal for us,” said Dent. “There are things I want to do to strengthen what we are doing now and to improve it.”
Like many small non -profit art organizations, the PRT rely on volunteers led by the Board of Directors, as is known, and the Board of Directors donates time. Dent has been the president of the Board since 2008.
“I did a lot of work during that time,” he said. But that was not an official job -until now. Under the new agreement, Catherine Stevens was elected as the president of the Board and replaced him as the director of the Board of Directors. At the meeting on January 28, Jeremy Wood was selected as Vice President.

The Playwrights round table holds a monthly workshop to cooperate with writers to create new drama works. In addition, this organization offers multiple public works every year. Some are 10 minutes of theater nights, the annual events that praise June through the theater, and the group debuts full -length original works every year. The next production is April.
Dent says that his focus focuses on attracting more theater participants through the performance of the organization and strengthening educational efforts.
“We really want to work with students and young playwrights to grow more in the field of education,” he said.
He said that adding his position could focus more on such an initiative. Under the new structure, Stevens processes finances and communication along with other management tasks. The role of Dent incorporates the responsibility of many art groups, such as supervising all the performance -related aspects of the organization.

PRT has been steadily growing for many years. For a while, it has paid a small scholarship to the writers, directors and actors introduced in the performance. We created a monthly online playwriting workshop between COVID-19 pandemic.
Professional grant writers have been contracted and have succeeded in increasing the subsidies received by non -profit organizations, including the venue subsidy subsidy for the orange County for renting performance space. For the first time, PRT received general management support funds from Central Florida’s United Arts at the end of 2024.
As it grows up, PRT is also trying to partner with Orlando whiskeysterfactory in a future project, and DENT pursues more corporate donors and hire social media coordinators to increase the group’s perception. I am aiming for that.

“It’s difficult for people to come out and watch theater with a title they don’t know,” said Dent. “And in addition, we have been here since 1997, but people don’t know about us yet.”
The Playwrights round table has been published in the Lowndes Shakespeare Center for many years, but this season has been relocated to Oviedo Mall’s Imagine Performing Arts. For ใ Dent said the switch brought some new faces to the audience.
He wants to build it in his new position. It’s not full time, but he continues to work in the gig, “I know the actor’s life,” said Dent -“I am paying me now, so I am this This is a good way to spend more time.
