PALM BAY, Fla. (WFLA) — Two children were killed in a Florida apartment fire early Friday morning.

According to Palm Bay Fire Rescue, firefighters were called to an apartment building on Sunnybrook Lane in northeast Palm Bay around 12:40 a.m.

Fire in Key West kills 3 people, including children

A fire on the second floor of an apartment building trapped several people and required an aggressive approach by firefighters to extinguish the fire and rescue those inside.

Search teams found the remains of a 10-year-old child and two survivors, a 5-year-old and a 32-year-old adult, PBFR said.

The survivors were taken to Orlando Regional Hospital for treatment of burns, but the 5-year-old boy succumbed to his injuries. The adult is in critical condition.

A 15-year-old boy who escaped the fire safely was transferred to other family members.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
