Governor DeSantis signed several bills aimed at supporting public safety and law enforcement.
These include cracking down on dangerous drugs, increasing supervision of repeat offenders, disrupting criminal organizations, supporting law enforcement and ensuring violent offenders face serious consequences.

SB 432 – Establishes trafficking penalties for xylazine, commonly known as “tranq,” increases penalties for offenders who sell dangerous substances to children, and includes “MEG legislation” to address the misuse of nitrous oxide.
SB 1332 – Strengthens the Florida Career Offender Registration Act to mandate stronger in-person registration and reporting requirements for career offenders, improved information sharing among law enforcement agencies, and increased accountability for noncompliance.

HB 429 – Modernizes Florida’s criminal gang statutes by recognizing online admissions, social media activity, and other modern indicators of gang affiliation when establishing gang involvement in criminal prosecutions.
SB 156 (Jason Rayner Police Officer Act) – Strengthens protections for law enforcement officers, increases penalties for acts of violence against police officers, and honors the legacy of Officer Jason Rayner, who was killed in the line of duty while serving the Daytona Beach community.
SB 436 – Increases penalties for repeat violent offenders, expands felony enhancement provisions for battery offenses, and increases penalties for offenders who commit violent crimes against law enforcement officers after being released from prison.
The governor’s office also reminded the public that since his election, the state has prohibited local governments from defunding police departments, increased penalties for crimes against law enforcement officers, increased salaries for police officers, expanded hiring incentives, and provided more than 10,000 law enforcement hiring bonuses.
