JACKSONVILLE, Fla. — Three North Florida men have been indicted on federal charges related to an alleged dog fighting operation, according to an announcement by U.S. Attorney Gregory W. Kehoe.
A federal grand jury indicted Drew Geer, 42, of Lake Butler. Anthony Crosby, 42, of Keystone Heights. Leroy Hulbert, 53, of Lake Butler, is charged with three counts each of possessing a dog for use in a dog fighting business.
In addition to the dog fighting charge, Geer and Crosby were each charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
If convicted, Mr. Geer and Mr. Crosby each face up to 30 years in federal prison, and Mr. Hulbert faces up to 15 years in prison.
According to the indictment, on Dec. 10, 2025, each of the three individuals allegedly possessed at least three dogs to be used in a dog fighting business. Prosecutors also allege that Mr. Geer and Mr. Crosby possessed firearms that day despite knowing that they had criminal records that prohibited them from lawfully possessing firearms.
Federal authorities arrested Geer on May 20, and he remains in custody pending trial. His trial is currently scheduled for July. Crosby and Halbert were arrested on May 29th.
The investigation was conducted by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Office of Inspector General, Clay County Sheriff’s Office, and Union County Sheriff’s Office. Assistant U.S. Attorney John Cannizzaro is prosecuting the case.
Federal officials stressed that the indictment is only a formal accusation and all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
