A Gainesville woman has been charged in federal court with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Northern District of Florida.
Jomekia Archer, 46, of Gainesville, could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted. U.S. Attorney John P. Heekin announced the charges.
Archer appeared in federal court for arraignment before Federal Judge Midori A. Lowery in Gainesville. A jury trial is scheduled for June 17, 2026, before Chief U.S. District Judge Allen C. Windsor, also in Gainesville.
The incident is being investigated by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and the Gainesville Police Department. Assistant U.S. Attorney Tyler Fleming is prosecuting the case.
Federal prosecutors said the case was part of Operation Take Back America, the Justice Department’s nationwide initiative aimed at combating violent crime, illegal immigration, cartels and transnational criminal organizations.

An indictment is just an allegation, not evidence of guilt. Archer is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
