Rising food and fuel costs remain a top concern for consumers, according to a recent FOX News poll, and grocery bills continue to squeeze household budgets across the country.
For shoppers looking to save money, new analysis from Consumer Reports reveals which grocery chains offer the best value. Using Walmart as a baseline, researchers compared prices at 35 retailers to determine where consumers could find the cheapest grocery bills.
The study found that only a handful of stores consistently beat Walmart in price.
Warehouse Club topped the list. Costco ranked as the cheapest option overall, with prices averaging 21.4% lower than Walmart. Right behind was BJ’s Wholesale Club, where prices were about 21% lower.
Among traditional grocery chains, Lidl ranked third with prices 8.5% lower than Walmart, followed by Aldi with 8.3% lower prices.

At the other end of the spectrum, the report identifies Whole Foods Market as the most expensive grocery retailer, with prices nearly 40% higher than Walmart. Shaw’s ranked second with prices 31.9% higher, and El Rancho Supermercado came in third with 30.1% higher prices than Walmart.
Trader Joe’s, on the other hand, ranked 10th most expensive in the analysis, with prices averaging 24.6% higher than Walmart.
The findings highlight how prices can vary across retailers, offering potential savings opportunities as consumers navigate persistently high grocery costs.
