More information: Florida Gators 2026 recruiting class

The Florida Gators football team has signed a solid 2026 recruiting class despite significant coaching changes, with new head coach John Sumrall hired to stabilize the group following the departure of former coach Billy Napier.

Florida State’s 2026 class is nationally competitive, according to recruiting analysts, finishing around the top 15 in most major recruiting rankings, including Rivals, ESPN and 247Sports.

This class includes multiple ESPN Top 300 prospects and a strong combination of offensive skill players and defensive players who are expected to contribute to the next phase of Florida football in Gainesville.

Sumrall moves quickly to keep the class intact

When the University of Florida hired John Sumrall as its 31st head coach, one of his top priorities was securing commitments from recruits who had committed to the Gators while on his previous staff.

Sumrall held a meeting with members of the 2026 class shortly after his hire, emphasizing the program’s stability and future direction.

Recruiting analysts noted that maintaining class cohesion during coaching changes is a key early advantage for new staff.

Several of Florida State’s top recruits have chosen to remain committed despite uncertainty regarding their coaching situations.

Quarterback and secondary lead the class

Among the most notable additions to the University of Florida’s 2026 class is quarterback Will Griffin, a rising prospect from Jesuit High School in Tampa. Griffin brought size, arm strength and athleticism to the quarterback room and was one of the earliest contributors in the class.

Florida also signed several talented defensive backs, including speedy cornerback CJ Bronaugh from Windermere, Florida. Recruiting evaluators have praised Bronaugh’s track speed and playmaking ability, traits that make him one of the most attractive defensive prospects in the class.

Other key new employees include:

Kevin Ford Jr., a defensive end from Texas powerhouse Duncanville High School Malik Morris, a highly productive linebacker from Lakeland, Fla. Gnibre Carr, an offensive lineman from IMG Academy

This group reflects Florida State’s focus on adding athletic defenders and versatile offensive players.

Analysts See Foundation for the Future

Recruiting experts say the University of Florida’s 2026 class will be a strong starting point for a new coaching staff.

This group features a solid core of four-star talent and several growth prospects, giving Sumrall a foundation to build upon as he reshuffles his roster through both high school recruiting and the transfer portal.

Overall, analysts believe Florida State’s ability to maintain a competitive recruiting class during the coaching transition proves the program is making a lasting impact on national recruiting.

With a new staff in place and talented freshmen arriving on campus, the Gators are hopeful that the 2026 group can help usher in a new era for Florida football in the Southeastern Conference.
