Democrats think they can eliminate some Florida Republicans in 2026

A Democratic victory in Florida would still result in a sharp increase at the state and legislative level.

The political action committee Future Democrats PAC is backing a national slate of candidates and is currently targeting the Florida House district held by Republican Rep. Randy Fine.

Why the Randy Fiennes District?

Democrats believe they may have a shot at Ms. Fine’s House seat, given that she received fewer votes than her predecessor and President Trump in last year’s special election.

In 2024, then-Congressman Mike Walz won 67% and President Trump 65%. In 2025, Fine received only 57%.

Democrats note that Fine is not the most popular lawmaker, even among local Republicans, and believe they can win over several disaffected Republicans and independents.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has made it clear he is not a fan of Fine. Some people in the MAGA movement, including Steve Bannon, said they were unimpressed with Fine’s run last year.

Some St. Johns County Republicans have hinted on social media that they don’t like the fact that Fine is treating them the wrong way and coming into the county carpet-bagged.

But Democrats will have a hill to climb if they think they can achieve victory over the House of Representatives.

The district is heavily Republican and includes red counties such as Marion, St. Johns, Flagler, Putnam, Volusia, and Lake.

And even Future Dems PAC leaders acknowledge that while they may not win in 2026, they are here for the long run. Are you okay.

“Our early investments demonstrate our determination to rebuild trust, advance the next generation of leadership, and strengthen durable Democratic strength across key states for victory in 2026 and beyond,” the group said.

Future Dems PAC said it wants to help Democrats respond to a changing electorate with bold new voices that “can win.”

But unless her seat undergoes major changes in the redistricting process, she is almost certain to win re-election this November.
