Affordability issues favor Democrats, but Florida Republicans still see a deficit in 2026

According to the latest Fox News poll, Democrats lead Republicans by 14 percentage points on affordability, support for the middle class by 14 percentage points and health care by 21 percentage points.

Meanwhile, Republicans lead Democrats by 15 percentage points on border security, 12 percentage points on keeping America safe, and 5 points on immigration.

On the issue of affordability, some Republican consultants dismissed a recent analysis by Fox Pollster that said Democrats had not announced a plan to address the issue.

But some point out that in 2010, Republicans didn’t “unveil a plan” to fight Obamacare, instead opposing it, and voters rewarded them with 63 seats in the House.

In 2018, the U.S. economy was strong under the Trump administration, but that didn’t stop Democrats from gaining 41 seats and regaining control of Congress.

In Florida, some Democrats are a little dazzled by University of Virginia professor Larry Sabato’s recent “Crystal Ball” analysis that the Florida Senate seat currently held by Republican Sen. Ashley Moody has gone from a “safe Republican” to a “likely Republican.”

Steve Vancore, a Florida pollster and top media consultant, said Democrats’ performance in the 2025 election shows they can win.

“But despite Dr. Sabato’s prediction, Florida remains Republican, and that hasn’t changed at all,” Vancore said.

While this analysis gives Democrats a small advantage, it’s not enough to win a Senate seat here in Florida.

Two other election observers, Inside Elections and Cook Political Report, said Florida still appears to be a solidly Republican state at this point.

Republican voters in Florida still lead Democrats by about 1.5 million voters, but there are about 3.4 million Florida voters who are registered as independents.
