Florida CFO makes fighting illegal immigration a top priority again

Before taking over as the state’s chief financial officer this year, Blaise Ingoglia was a Florida state senator who made illegal immigration a key issue.

In 2023, the state Senate passed a bill introduced by Ingoglia that would require hospitals that accept Medicaid to ask about a patient’s immigration status on admission or registration forms.

Governor DeSantis signed the bill.

Ingoglia now hopes to use his position as Florida’s chief financial officer to expand the reach of undocumented immigrants currently in Florida and those planning to come to Florida.

Earlier this month, the CFO announced the legislative priorities he would like state legislators to address.

Prohibits prelicensure instruction, testing, and licensing procedures for commercial driver’s licenses from being conducted in a language other than English.

Exclude illegal aliens from employees covered by the Workers’ Compensation Act.

Force businesses that employ illegal aliens to pay out-of-pocket costs for injuries.

Requires businesses to use E-Verify to submit workers’ compensation insurance claims.

Prohibits illegal aliens from receiving licenses issued by the Department of Financial Services.

Prevent illegal alien IDs from being used to open bank accounts and cashier’s checks at state-chartered financial institutions.

Prohibits illegal aliens from receiving benefits from down payment assistance programs and silent second mortgage programs.

Forces the illegal immigrant’s insurance company to admit fault if the illegal immigrant causes a car accident in Florida.

The chief financial officer said he is proposing further deterring illegal immigration to Florida and holding bad actors accountable.

“Illegal immigration is plaguing our communities. Too many lives have been lost and too many people have been harmed as a result of the illegal immigration created by the Biden administration,” Ingoglia said.
