Republican gubernatorial candidate Paul Renner announces Florida’s first affordability plan

Housing affordability is the No. 1 issue for Floridians, according to a Florida poll.

Florida Republican gubernatorial candidate and former Florida House speaker Paul Renner just announced his Florida First Affordability Plan. The campaign says the plan focuses on five key areas: property taxes, insurance and litigation abuses, health care, education, and creating more jobs with better incomes.

Key components of the Florida First Affordability Plan:

Property tax relief to protect homeowners.

Renner is calling for an immediate repeal of property taxes through legislation and a cap on future taxes to prevent the government from growing faster than Floridians’ incomes.

It requires a two-thirds supermajority vote of local governments for new or increased taxes and fees, allows voters to approve or reject measures in a subsequent referendum, and protects seniors through property tax reductions (Save Our Seniors).

Property tax protection for first-time homebuyers. This would present voters with a plan to completely eliminate residential property taxes while preserving funding for essential community services like public safety and schools.

Prevent private equity from buying up housing and jacking up prices.

Candidates also said they wanted to reduce insurance costs and end litigation abuses. These include ending nuclear judgments and litigation abuses that raise insurance premiums.

Litigation financing reform. Expand home hardening programs to reduce premiums, strengthen insurance company accountability to protect consumers, and speed up claims payments.

Accessible and affordable healthcare

Implementing Florida’s Health Freedom and Wellness Initiative

Promote quality health care options that control patients and reduce costs without expanding government.

Expand the health workforce to improve access and reduce costs.

. A world-class education that prepares students for high-value careers

In-state tuition will not increase.

Suspend admission of international students from hostile countries (such as China)

Require universities to adjust degree programs interrupted by AI, ensuring every degree leads to a great job

Protect universal school choice scholarships that reduce education costs for Florida families.

More jobs, better wages, stronger Florida

Regulatory reforms to promote employment in small and medium-sized enterprises

Protect Florida workers by eliminating H-1B visa hiring and procurement for state employees.

Expand vocational, technical, and trade education for high-wage jobs

Supporting apprenticeships in all skilled trades
