Nearly $200 million in federal grants to benefit illegal immigrants

Since 2021, nearly $200 million in federal health care grants have been distributed to benefit illegal aliens in the United States

Researchers at Open the Books (OTB) said the grants used were under the umbrella of “medical assistance” and were allocated to states to expand programs for illegal immigrants.

Most of the spending on identified illegal immigrants went to programs that provide direct services to the general public (as opposed to scientific research). Of the total program spending of $185 million, $182 million came from the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The remaining $2.5 million comes from the Corporation for National and Community Service, which operates programs like AmeriCorps, OTB said.

AmeriCorps implemented a $2.5 million program to “help serve primarily undocumented immigrants who are newly eligible for state-subsidized health insurance.”

OTB found that $75.6 million was disbursed by the Department of Health and Human Services to provide health care to undocumented immigrants who are “geographically isolated and economically or medically vulnerable.”

$18 million of the federal spending went to health-related research projects to expand undocumented immigrants’ access to health care and other taxpayer-funded programs in the name of health “equity.” Millions of dollars have been spent on programs researching the idea of a universal basic income.

Provides millions of dollars to homeless, drug addicted, and other “medically vulnerable” undocumented immigrants. OTB found that $31 million was spent on programs to treat substance abuse.

The amounts listed by OTB also do not include indirect spending on illegal immigrants through Medicaid or education. The Congressional Budget Office estimates that more than $90 billion was spent on these two programs from fiscal years 2017 to 2023, benefiting undocumented immigrants and their children.

OTB says the Trump administration is working to eliminate waste spent on illegal aliens in the United States. One area where it is helping to reduce costs is by deterring people from entering the country illegally.
