(The Hill/WFLA) – President Trump warned in a speech in Miami that New Yorkers will soon be fleeing to Florida following Tuesday’s victory for Mayor-elect Zoran Mamdani (D).
“The Democrats are so extreme right now that Miami will soon become a haven for people fleeing communism in New York City. They’re fleeing,” President Trump told an audience at the American Business Forum.

“Where do you live? New York City, but I’m leaving because I don’t want to live under a communist regime,” he added.
Trump himself left his hometown of New York City for Palm Beach in 2019 and said he was treated poorly by Democratic leaders in the city and state.
President Trump criticized former New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio (Democratic), saying, “When I left New York and went to the White House, there was a guy named De Blasip, so there was a clear sign of trouble.” “He goes down as perhaps the worst mayor in history.”
Florida’s Republican Party has successfully appealed to the state’s immigrants from countries such as Venezuela and Cuba, warning of the spread of socialism and communism within the Democratic Party.
“As I have warned for years, our adversaries are bent on turning the United States into communist Cuba and socialist Venezuela, and you know what happened in those places,” Trump said in a speech.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis also appeared on Fox News and said Mamdani’s victory was “a ballistic shot in the foot for New York City voters.”
“His tax policies are going to be insane and anti-business and all that, but the No. 1 thing that drives people to want to flee these jurisdictions is the breakdown in security, and I think he’s going to make de Blasio’s reign look like a golden age,” DeSantis said.
”[Mamdani] “We want to remove the Columbus statue. We have already said that if they remove it from Manhattan, we will remove it in Florida,” he added. Hey, if they want to put the Statue of Liberty on Lake Okeechobee, we’ll do that too.
The president’s comments are the latest salvo in an escalating war of words with Mamdani, who identifies as a democratic socialist.
Mamdani incited Trump during his victory speech in Brooklyn on Tuesday night.
“So, Donald Trump, I know you’re watching, so I have four words for you: Turn up the volume,” the mayor-elect said.
During Mamdani’s speech, Trump posted, “…and it begins!” In Truth Social.
