College ranking site Research.com analyzed more than 1,700 colleges and their costs for tuition, room, board, and supplies. Its purpose is to provide prospective students with critical insight into affordable college options across the United States, revealing which colleges have the lowest cost of living nationally and by state.

Four Florida universities rank among the top 50 most affordable options for students in the United States.

At the top of the list was Tallahassee Community College. We offer students the lowest cost of living in Florida (ranked 18th in the nation) Ranked among the most affordable universities in Florida for student living costs, with an estimated total annual cost of $14,343 for tuition, room and supplies, which is 57% lower than the national average of $32,990 per year.

This is followed by Florida Gulf Coast University in Fort Myers (ranked 38th in the nation). The study found that the average annual cost for students was an estimated $16,513.

Florida Agricultural and Mechanical College in Tallahassee is ranked No. 3 in the state (48th nationally) as an affordable college, followed by the University of North Florida in Jacksonville, which ranks No. 4 in Florida (50th nationally).

The University of West Florida in Pensacola rounds out the top five cheapest universities in Florida.

According to Research.com, even though the cost of living has increased across the United States in recent years, prospective students can expect to have a large number of college options with low costs of living that are well below the national average.

“This provides students who may otherwise have to forego attending college due to financial constraints the opportunity to not only gain the educational and career growth that comes with earning a degree, but also gain a college experience that can be pivotal in many people’s lives,” Research.com said.
