ORLANDO, Fla. (WFLA) — Floridians will be able to take non-stop flights to Japan for the first time, according to an announcement Tuesday.

Orlando International Airport has announced a partnership with Japanese low-cost carrier ZIPAIR to offer non-stop charter flights to those wishing to fly to Tokyo.

“Our partnership with ZIPAIR is more than just new routes; it’s history,” said Greater Orlando Aviation Authority CEO Lance Little. This will be the first nonstop passenger flight between the Asia Pacific region and Florida. This partnership is a testament to the economic power we share among our communities. We look forward to welcoming ZIPAIR passengers with the warmth and hospitality that both countries value. ”

Tokyo was previously Orlando’s “largest unserved Asian market,” according to a release from Orlando International Airport. This new flight will not only be the first nonstop passenger flight between Tokyo and Orlando, but also the first nonstop flight between Florida and Asia Pacific.

“We are extremely proud of this historic achievement as it will be the first direct charter flight from Japan to Orlando, Florida,” said Shingo Nishida, President and CEO of ZIPAIR Tokyo. “Orlando is home to many world-class theme parks, and by operating charter flights like this for travelers from Japan, we hope to meet the expectations of our customers as they experience a new standard in air travel with ZIPAIR. We look forward to welcoming Disney fans and guests on our charter flights next spring.”

ZIPAIR will operate four flights between Orlando International Airport and Narita International Airport on the following dates.
