With the 2026 midterm elections just over 12 months away, President Donald Trump has increased the re-election odds of Florida Agriculture and Consumer Services Secretary Wilton Simpson. Trump posted support for Simpson on Truth Social and praised his accomplishments during his first term.
“Wilton Simpson is a powerful and popular Agriculture Commissioner in my “home” state of Florida, a state I love, and he has been elected six times, including a record-breaking 6.1 million votes (to date) in 2024!
Mr. Wilton is a fifth generation Floridian, lifelong egg farmer, successful businessman, former State Senate President and current Agriculture Commissioner who has served the Sunshine State in an acclaimed and triumphant career. Wilton is a true America First patriot who has been with us since our inception and is an incredibly capable advocate for Florida agriculture and our great farmers and ranchers. He is fighting tirelessly to grow our economy, reduce taxes and regulations, defend America’s energy superiority, promote MADE IN THE USA, protect our now very secure borders, ensure our safety, stop immigrant criminals, murderers, and other criminals from entering our country illegally, and protect our Second Amendment, which is always under siege.
Commissioner Wilton Simpson has his full and complete support for my re-election. He will never let you down! ”
Simpson is seeking reelection for a second term after a relatively easy victory in the 2022 midterm elections with 59% of the vote. His margin was impressive, but not as large as that of Govs. Ron DeSantis and Ashley Moody, who won their statewide re-election races by 19.4 points and 21 points, respectively. For context, it’s important to note that Mr. DeSantis and Mr. Moody were much better known as incumbents than Mr. Simpson, who was running for his first statewide executive office.
There are currently two potential candidates to challenge Simpson: Republican Michael Minardi and Democrat Chase Romagnano.
