Tampa named 4th best college city in the U.S., report says

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — WalletHub releases a report on the best and worst college towns in the United States, naming Tampa as the fourth best college town.

The three main dimensions used in WalletHub’s study, “America’s Best College Cities 2025” were wallet-friendliness, social environment, and academic and economic opportunities.

WalletHub said it evaluated these aspects using relevant indicators, and the survey evaluated each indicator out of 100. A score of 100 represents the most favorable conditions for college students.

According to WalletHub, a weighted average of all metrics gave Tampa a total score of 60.55 out of 100.

WalletHub looked at 415 cities of various sizes and ranked each of these cities by their total score.

Below are WalletHub’s rankings of Tampa’s 415 student-friendly cities. A score of 1 is the highest and a score of 415 is the lowest.

186 – Cost of living for young people 53 – Quality of higher education 23 – Cost of higher education 44 – Change in the population of people aged 25 and over with a bachelor’s degree or higher 138 – Crime rate 191 – Share of rented and rented housing 174 – Number of students per capita 110 – Unemployment rate

Tampa ranks 3rd overall among large cities and 5th for best social environment, according to WalletHub research.
