HOLMES COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – Two men were found openly carrying firearms in Holmes County on Tuesday as Second Amendment auditors, according to law enforcement.
Deputies from the Holmes County Sheriff’s Office were called to keep an eye on the pair after they were spotted in the Thomas Drive area near the jail.

The sheriff’s office said the men were Second Amendment auditors and appeared to be recording law enforcement to prompt a response.
In September, a state appellate court struck down Florida’s 2023 open carry ban as unconstitutional.
In an update posted on social media, the sheriff’s office said the two “gunmen” didn’t get the response they wanted and later called in to complain that sheriff’s deputies were following them and harassing them.
“Let’s be clear: If you’re walking around wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying an AR-15, our sheriffs are going to do what they have to do to keep the public safe,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement posted on Facebook.
“Public safety comes first. Always.”
