Florida political parties clash through government closure

TALHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) – Pressure is rising in Washington, D.C. as Democrats and Republicans continue to clash on the sixth day of government shutdown.

Here in Florida, leaders hope that a simple fix will come soon.

“How did you get here? Why is Washington tied to the knot now?” said House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) on the sixth day of the shutdown.

D.C. Republicans continue to highlight “clean” measures while Democrats hope to fund the government through November 21st, and Democrats continue to fight for seats at the table.

Florida’s Democratic Party Chairman Nikki Fried says the showdown has been heavy and there is hope that Republicans and Democrats will put their partisan differences aside.
“We have the power to cut transactions here in Florida at all times. We have 28 members of Congress,” Fried said.

On the Republican side, Florida GOP Chairman Evan Power doesn’t seem to have the faith that Democrats vote to back up the government.

“Senate Democrats are trying to hold the process hostage on a $1.5 trillion wish list that includes funding illegal foreigners. That’s simple. Democrats kept it.
However, there is hope that bipartisan support and cooperation will win for fried foods.
“Florida Congressional Delegation, I have been asking you, and I hope you will listen to your constituents and find a way to come with you.
It remains unknown when government closures end as Floridians are just beginning to see the impact in this state.
