OCALA, Fla. (WFLA) – A Florida aide was found guilty Thursday in 2024 in the fatal shooting of his girlfriend.

On September 19th last year, around 11pm, the Okara Police Station received a call from 33-year-old Leslie Boylow Jr.

At the time, Boylow Jr. was Marion County vice-chairman and the position he had served for eight years.

The lawmakers arrived at the scene where they found the victim, his girlfriend, Boylow Jr., who was holding the 25-year-old Polina Wright. Wright was declared dead at the scene.

During the investigation, Boylow Jr. told detectives that the couple had returned from an early dinner. During that time they consumed some alcoholic beverages. After arriving at the house, Boylow stated that Wright asked him to teach her about cleaning and using the firearm.

Boylow Jr. told police that when he went to demonstrate his use of a rifle, the gun came out and he wrote a terrible post on his forehead.

The Marion County Sheriff’s Office arrested Boylow Jr., who was quickly fired from his position.

According to the state attorney’s office, after a few days of trial, the ju judge discovered that Boylow Jr. was found guilty of manslaughter with a firearm. He faces up to 30 years in prison.

“The verdict emphasizes that no one has surpassed the law, and if negligence or recklessness leads to a tragic loss of life, the offender must be accountable,” said Bill Gladson, fifth Judicial Circuit Counsel. “Our office expresses deep sadness to Mr. Wright’s family and thank the law enforcement officials who pursued the case with their service and professionalism and thoroughness.”

The case was successfully charged by assistant state attorneys Richard Bucksman and Tucker O/Neill.
