Cape Coral, Fla. (WFLA) — Florida lawmakers are discussing a bill that requires background checks to buy ammunition to reduce gun violence across the state.
The bill, introduced by two Democrats, is being met with skepticism and support on both sides.
NBC affiliate WBBH reported that many gun store owners, including Guns 4 manager Josh Araujo, have acknowledged safety considerations, but have raised concerns about the impact of costs that could be considered for store owners.
Reporters said Araujo explained that every time a background check is run, it costs money, so the background check fees will be passed on to consumers.
The new bill exempts law enforcement agencies and those who hide their permits from background checks required when purchasing ammunition.
