LAS VEGAS (KLAS) – Last week, Spirit Airlines announced plans to abandon its approximately 1,800 flight attendants by the end of the year. Some of those furrows have been announced since then.

Notification of Worker Coordination and Retraining Notification (Warning) to Government Employees will be attacked by the Harry International Airport in Las Vegas, Senior Vice President of Guest Experience and Crew Operations at Spirit Airlines (Notice to Government Employees within 14 days of that date, or 393 employees belonging to the Association of Flight Crews.

The fuller is expected to be temporary. However, the warning notification says the airline is not sure how long it will last. The warning law is a federal law that requires employers to provide written notice at least 60 calendar days prior to plant closures and mass layoffs.

A similar warning notice has also been posted in Illinois, warning that more than 60 spirit employees at O’Hare International Airport will be affected in December. More than 330 people will be abolished at Atlanta Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, Georgia.

Spirit Airlines cuts services between Las Vegas and several cities

In Florida, Spirit warns that nearly 800 employees will be affected. It includes 70 employees. [the] The International Association of Mechanics and Aerospace Workers has more than 300 flight attendants at Fort Lauderdale International Airport, 350 flight attendants at Orlando International Airport and 71 at Miami International Airport.

“In addition, this Farrow is subject to the terms of the applicable collective bargaining agreement (“CBA’),” the notice reads. “The right to bumping (i.e., to avoid being far away by driving away another employee) is governed by the relevant CBA between the company and the union, if any.”

The Flight Crew Association said last month it was working to secure “priority interviews” with other airlines for flight attendants who fled.

In a letter to its members, the union initially managed to avoid Farrow as Spirit attempts to significantly reduce costs, but said, “The problem is that a massive reduction in aircraft and flight times requires much higher power cuts.”

In early September, Spirit Airlines announced that it had stopped serving 11 cities to focus on the most powerful markets. Eight of the 11 cities served to and from Las Vegas. Services to these cities will be stopped for the week of October 2, according to a statement released by Spirit Airlines.

This came just months after coming out of the first Chapter 11 reorganization, after Budget Airlines filed for bankruptcy protection. Spirit CEO and president Dave Davis said the company is focusing on reducing debt and raising capital.

The airline also enacted Farrow and employment cuts before filing for bankruptcy last year.

The company’s cost-cutting efforts continued even after it emerged from bankruptcy protection in March. This includes plans to defeat around 270 pilots in the coming months and downgrade 140 captains to first officers.

The changes, which are set to take effect on October 1 and November 1, were also tied to the expected flight demand for 2026, the company said.

Spirit says it is considering selling certain aircraft and real estate. Its fleet is relatively young and has an attractive target for airlines. However, attempts to acquire from budget rivals like JetBlue and Frontier have failed both before and within the Spirit’s initial bankruptcy process.

The Associated Press contributed to this report.
