The Property Tax Committee concludes the two-day session with no proposals yet

TALHASSEE, Fla. (WFLA) – All eyes are on the state capitol as Florida lawmakers meet again and consider the next part of the property tax debate.

So far, no official property tax proposals have been discussed or discussed by state legislators. Instead, it was a two-day presentation and a discussion of what people in their hometown worried and hoped for in the future.

Contractors given another two weeks to pay back a couple or faced criminal case in Tampa

Day 1 of the Property Tax Select Committee brought in four hours worth of presentations covering mileage rates, school funding, and concerns from financially constrained counties.

Day 2 focused on constituents and local governments who had to stay in question, as well as the presentations of the Governor and Florida Doge.
“Every time I start talking about property taxes people really ask me, yeah, we want to talk about it, but what we really want to talk about is homeowner insurance,” said D-Tampa State Assemblyman Dianne Hart.

From the beginning of this discussion, Hart begged the question: What about property insurance concerns?
“At what point are you going to deal with the fact that our premiums are constantly rising? So, somewhere between these taxes, we need to figure out what it does as it relates to insurance,” Hart said.

At the moment, there are no official proposals from the Select Committee, but R-Miami co-chair Vicki Lopez is sure it might feel like a dragged process, but they want to do it right.
“What we’re looking at is a process that has to be applied to 67 counties, 411 municipalities, then to it, and we need to do that in a way that doesn’t really have a very clear impact on another county.”

House Speaker R-Miami Danny Perez stopped by Capitol on Tuesday to greet his committee members as the path to a final property tax proposal is still far away.

For those excited to hear the final proposal, the committee chair says it is aiming for a November-December timeline to meet the House Speaker’s deadline by the first week of the session.
