TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — The National Hurricane Center said it expects Tropical Storm Gabriel to return to the open ocean before it develops into a hurricane on Sunday.
As of 5am on Sunday, the storm was travelling about 455 miles southeast of Bermuda and 9 mph through the northwest.
With a maximum sustained wind of 65 mph, the storm is further strengthened before reaching Category 1 status, before being defined by winds of at least 74 mph. The NHC predicts that it will reach hurricane status on Sunday, but continues to move towards Northwest.

On Monday, Gabriel is expected to speed up Tuesday, twisting more towards the east and northeast, and turn gradually north before returning to the Open Atlantic. It is expected to travel past Bermuda on Monday, and will likely bring bulges and rifts from North Carolina to the East Coast.
The NHC has also identified tropical waves emerging from African coasts that are currently creating confused showers and thunderstorms near Cabo Verde. The chances of development for the next 48 hours are close to zero, but will rise to 40% over the next 7 days.
