ORLANDO, Fla. — US District Judge Roy B. Dalton has sentenced Ellie Edward Durair, 27, Orlando, to six years in federal prison for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. Dulaire is currently sentenced to the Florida Department of Corrections. His federal judgment will begin on October 9, 2026, when the state’s judgment is expected to end. The court also ordered Durail to lose the Smith & Wesson firearms and ammunition used in the violation. Dulaire pleaded guilty on June 24, 2025.
On January 23, 2022, Durare was observed by deputies from the Orange County Sheriff’s Office at the Florida Gun Show, according to court documents. The deputy admitted Durare from his previous lawsuit and knew he was being sought for an arrest warrant from Lake County. After contacting Dulaire, deputies found a Smith & Wesson M&P Shield firearm inside his vehicle. The firearm was reportedly stolen from Pasco County in 2021. Durair is a felon convicted nine times who is prohibited from owning a firearm.
The incident was investigated by the Department of Alcohol, cigarettes, firearms, explosives and the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. He was indicted by US lawyers Michael P. Felisetta and Courtney Richardson Jones.
This case is part of Project Safe Neighborhoods (PSN) and is a program that brings together law enforcement at all levels and communities that help reduce violent crime and gun violence and make our neighborhood safer for everyone. On May 26, 2021, the department launched a violent crime reduction strategy that strengthens PSN based on these core principles. It promotes community trust and legitimacy, helps prevent violence in the first place, prioritizes focused strategic enforcement, and measures outcomes.
