Florida execution: Who died this year?

TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Florida set a record of run counts this year.

Gov. Ron DeSantis signed more death warrants this year than his predecessor, with 11 people deadly in 2025.

Previously, the state had the most executions set. It was set in 2014 when then-Governor Sen. Rickscott signed eight death jail warrants.

Three more people are scheduled to be executed this year, but here is the current list of people who died in Florida in 2025.

James Ford

Ford was killed on February 13th by a fatal injection at the Florida State Jail in his first execution of the year.

He was convicted in 1997 of killing 25-year-old Gregory Marnolly and his wife Kimberly, 26, while fishing at a SOD farm in southwestern Charlotte County.

Edward James

James was executed on March 20th. He was convicted of killing eight-year-old Toni Neuner and his grandmother Betty Dick on September 19, 1993.

Michael Tange

Tanji died on April 8th due to acquiring and strangleholding of Janet Acosta, a Miami Herald production worker.

Acosta was beaten, taken away, relegated to Florida keys, strangled, and her body left on the island.

Jeffrey Hutchinson

Hutchinson was executed on May 1 for the shotgun murder of her girlfriend, 32-year-old Renee Flaherty in 1998 and the shotgun murder of her three children: Jeffrey, 9, Amanda, 7, and Logan, 4.

All four were killed by a 12 gauge shotgun found at the kitchen counter.

Glen Rogers

Rogers, also known as the “cross-country killer,” was executed on May 15th. He was convicted in 1995 of killing Tina Cribs in Gibson, Florida, in California.

He was also suspected of killing at least two women and an elderly man in murders across the country.

Anthony Wainwright

Wainwright was fatally injected on June 10, 1994 at a Florida prison near Stark for the rape and murder of 23-year-old Carmen Gayhart.

Thomas Gudinas

Gudinas was murdered on June 24th by a fatal injection. He was convicted of rape and murder of Michelle McGrath at a bar in Central Florida in May 1994.

Michael Bell

Bell was executed on July 15th. He was convicted in 1993 of fatally shooting Jimmy West and Tamecca Smith outside the bar as part of an attempted murder of revenge.

Edward Zakrutsevsky

Zakrzewski died on July 31 after being convicted of murdering his wife and two children in 1994.

Kale Bates

Bates was executed on August 19th. He was found guilty in June 1982 for acquiring Jane White from the Florida Panhandle insurance office.

Kayle Bates (FDOC)

Curtis Wyndham

Wyndham was killed on August 28th. He was convicted in November 1992 of killing his girlfriend Valerie Davis, mother Mary Rubin and Johnny Lee.

Future implementation

Desantis has signed the death warrant for David Pittman, scheduled for execution on Wednesday, September 17th.

Pittman was convicted in May 1990 for killing his estranged wife’s sister and parents.

If Pittman is killed, Florida sets the record for the most executions in a year.

Two more runs are scheduled for this fall.

Victor Tony Jones is scheduled to die on September 30th due to the murder of two people in 1990 during robbery, and Samuel Lee Smithers is scheduled to be executed on October 14th for the murder of two women in 1996.
