Ocala, Fla. — The federal ju judge has indicted 36-year-old Gyron Michael Juarez Gomez of Guatemala on charges of illegally re-entrying the United States and not registering as a sex offender, Gregory W. Caho announced Monday.

If convicted, Juarez Gomez faces up to 30 years in federal prison.

Juarez Gomez was convicted on November 30, 2020 of sexual assault on a child between the ages of 12 and 18, according to court documents. After his conviction he was required to register as a sex offender under the Sex Offender Registration and Notification Act (SORNA). He was deported to Guatemala on December 29, 2020, but was found to have returned to the US on August 8, 2025 without permission. Prosecutors allege that he did not register as a sex offender after returning home.

The investigation is being conducted by the US Immigration Customs Enforcement and Removal Operations, the former US S-Service, the Mount Dora Police Department, and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement. U.S. Attorney Advisor Hannah Nouke Watson is indicting the case.

The indictment is a formal charge, and Juarez Gomez is presumed to be innocent until proven guilty.
