BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – Multiple mangle cars lined up with I-95s in Brevard County Sunday morning and scattered debris lined up in Brevard County after the wrong road driver killed three people and caused a major crash that injured six more.

The crash crash occurred in the northbound lane of I-95 near Wickham Road, just before 4am on Sunday, September 14th.

Man charged after chasing deputies at Howard Frankland Bridge: affidavit

The Florida Highway Patrol said traffic cameras captured the moment a 34-year-old woman driving a Toyota Corolla made an illegal U-turn on the highway and began driving in the wrong direction.

According to the Troopers, the Cocoa native made a U-turn near Viera Boulevard and was heading in the right direction on the I-95 until he began driving southward in the northbound lane.

The 34-year-old driver crashed head-on to the Chevrolet Impala.

The two Impala, a 34-year-old man and a 46-year-old woman from Holly Hill, were declared dead at the scene because they were not wearing seat belts, FHP reported.

Officials said the driver in the wrong direction also died at the scene. Investigators have not yet released the names of the people killed.

Authorities say the initial clash caused eight pileups and injured six other people.

The Troopers said crashes cannot be prevented for the victims involved.

The wrong direction driver detection system is located at the entrance and exit ramps of most central Florida highways, but in this case it was not effective as a woman made illegal U-turns on the highway, FHP told WESH.

The Troopers said they are investigating to determine whether alcohol or drugs are the cause of the crash.
