The word around the state is that the Florida Governor’s Committee may give final approval to Dr. Donald Landry to become the new interim president of the University of Florida.

The former Columbia University medical professor has received praise from conservatives for “legal protections against social media speeches, including commonly recognized conservative views.”

Some news outlets report that if Landry is approved, his obligation would be to eliminate dollars funding the DEI program at UF.

Landry’s contract “stops the use of public or private funds from being spent on DEI or political or social activities,” Gainesvilsang reported.

Dr. Landry’s annual salary is set at $2 million and will receive an additional $500,000 bonus if the contract request is met.

According to Gainesville Sun, some of them include appointing permanent Provosts and filling in the position of interim deans with those who are firmly aligned with the principles that guide Florida’s approach to higher education.

Review courses for educational value and eliminate people with “consistent, low return on investment.”

“Please keep safety as your number one priority, including UF students, including Jewish students and the wider campus community.

On the surface, Florida GOP lawmakers like what they saw with this new appointment of Dr. Landry.

Gov. Ron Desantis praised Dr. Landry and posted on X, saying Landry is a strong candidate and has a “great record of achievements.”
