This morning, Florida Rep. and former state legislator Paul Renner announced his candidacy in the Republican primary for the Florida governor. On Facebook, Renner posted:
“As a member of the House and speaker, I stood with Ron DeSantis and branded our nation to brand the free state of Florida. I’m running towards the governor, so when the DeSantis era is over, we can protect victory and solve the remaining challenges. Father, I’m committed to ensuring safety and prosperity for the next generation of Florida.”
According to a press release from Renner, he served as a naval officer for 20 years, including during Operation Desert Storm and in combat developments in Afghanistan. He began his legal career as a prosecutor, standing up for the victims and later successfully carrying out private practices. He served in Congress from 2015 to 2024. The last two served as Speaker of the House. He currently works for the State University Systems Committee. Renner and his wife, Adriana, live in the Palm Coast, where they raise two children.
Renner will face Byron Donald, a Trump recruiter who represents Naples and represents the 80th district in the Florida House of Representatives from 2016 to 2020, but has no executive experience in his political career. In response to Renner’s entry, Donald’s campaign strategist responded in an official statement.
“Byron Donald will be Florida’s next governor, because he is a proven conservative fighter that President Trump supports.” – Ryan Smith, Chief Strategist of the Byron Donald for Governor Campaign.
