Reel Talk: George’s Poverty and Fishing with the Key

Tampa, Fla. (WFLA) – The Florida Keys are known for fishing in a variety of different ways. Amanda Holly has had a great opportunity to fish with George Poverty, a world-famous fisherman for 26 years and host of his world-famous fishermen, George Poverty, for episodes and reel talk of George’s show in Islamorada!

The first day was an offshore trip for tuna and mahi. They had tuna bites, but the shark had other plans. However, they were very successful in Mahi Mahi. They trolled along the grass patches and threw live bait near a flock of birds.

The next day they stayed on the coast and fished the reef for oil snappers. This is always a fun family favorite!

It was a great trip and in fact Amanda had the opportunity to fish with him. In addition to reel talk, they were filming for the upcoming seasons of George’s saltwater fishing world. You can catch an episode fishing with Amanda and marine artist Pasta Pantaleo on the Discovery Channel in early 2026!

Amanda will go into detail on how to catch Mahi Mahi in the Florida Keys in the upcoming segment of Reel Talk!
