TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) – Florida men are doing their best to help remove invasive Burmese pythons from the Everglades.
Aaron Mann won 87 Pythons in July as part of the Python program for the South Florida Water Management District.
This year marks the fifth person to die of carnivorous bacteria in Florida.
South Florida’s Water Management District (SFWMD) said Mann captured the most python of the hunters in July, winning a $1,000 award.
Christina Kraus was with Mann for all the captures of the field.
Hunters can try tracking large reptiles through a program that launched a new incentive system in 2025.
Currently, Python removal agents catch $50 (4 feet long) per Python. An additional $25 will be added for every additional foot of about 4 feet.
The hunter with the most pythons in a month wins $1,000. As mentioned earlier, Mann was the winner in July.
According to SFWMD, the challenge aims to help cull snake populations that threaten the ecosystem by actively preying on birds, mammals and other reptiles because there are no natural predators.
