TAMPA, Fla. (WFLA) — Low-pressure, non-tropical regions are expected to form in a few days, the National Hurricane Center said.
The low pressure area from the southeastern United States is expected to form in a day or so of hundreds of miles off the coast of North Carolina.
Tropical or subtropical development is possible as the system moves northeasterly through the warm waters of the Gulf Stream.
According to the NHC, by early next week, the system is expected to encounter areas of cold water and strong upper winds, which could end the development potential.
The chance of formation in the next 48 hours is 10%, but the chance of formation in the next 7 days is 20%.
The development of tropical waves over the Central Tropical Atlantic Ocean appears unlikely to occur in a day or two, but appears to be even more favorable in a few days.
The NHC said that if the system moves west-northwest across the central and subtropical Atlantic, tropical depression could form this weekend or early next week.
The chance of formation over the next 48 hours is 10%, but the chance of formation over the next 7 days is 60%.
