Dania Beach, Fla., August 2025 – In an ongoing effort to expand the Caribbean footprint and improve its fare structure, Spirit Airlines announced two important updates. Adding a new non-stop route from Fort Lauderdale and revisions to changes in the most basic ticket tier and cancellation pricing policy.
New Caribbean Route from Fort Lauderdale
Spirit Airlines will soon offer non-stop flights, from Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) to two popular Caribbean destinations.
Belize City, Belize – Services begin on November 21, 2025 and are open three times a week (Monday, Friday and Saturday). One-way fares start at $85
Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands – On December 4th, 2025, it will be released on a three-time schedule (Thursday, Saturday and Sunday) with introductory fares starting at $66.
Spirit will become the only carrier to directly serve both destinations in Fort Lauderdale
Airlines emphasize that three fare bundles across these routes (Spirit First, Premium Economy, and Value) offer a range of benefits from flexibility beyond priority boarding and baggage checks.

These new routes mark some of Spirit’s broader post-bankruptcy strategies and reaffirm the market’s presence from Fort Lauderdale’s core hub. Here, it is expected to operate over 100 daily departures to more than 70 destinations by the end of the year.
Fare-related changes and cancellation fee changes
Following the previous initiative in 2024, Spirit has recovered these fees to eliminate all fare class changes and cancellation fees, but only at the lowest “GO” fare class. As of February 5, 2025, passengers with “Go” fares will be subject to a change or cancellation request, depending on how close the change is.
31-59 days ahead: $59 fee 7-30 days: $79 within 7 days: $99 fee is not charged for changes made prior to departure
Meanwhile, luxury packaging becomes familiar, comfortable and bigger (now rebranded to the first spirit of the spirit, premium economy, value). This subtle yet meaningful rollback reflects the continued readjustment of the spirit’s continued fare structure after its emergence from Chapter 11. Changes affect only the most basic fare options, but passengers who choose Spirit First or Premium Economy will still benefit from penalty-free flexibility
