MARON COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) — When he pointed to the laser on a Marion County Sheriff’s Office helicopter over the weekend, he claimed he was “just stupid,” the sheriff’s office said.
The Marion County Sheriff’s Office said air forces were doing security checks in Ocala when crews noticed a “green laser beam hitting aircraft repeatedly.”
The pilot’s eyesight was hindered, but Chief Tim Merton Corp was able to use a helicopter camera to find the suspect identified as 41-year-old Adam Santiago Lugo.

The sheriff’s office said Santiago Lugo was spotted standing in the driveway with binoculars and a laser pointer.
The air crew pointed a ground agent towards the Santiago-Lugo location while “he continued to attack the Air-1 with a laser beam.”
When questioned about the incident, deputies said Santiago Lugo claimed he was bored and “just stupid.”
“What you stupid sometimes costs you a felony,” the aide told Santiago Lugo.
Santiago-Lugo was charged with pointing laser light at the pilot and resisting arrest without violence. He was taken to the Marion County Jail.
