Hillsboro County, Fla. (WFLA) – Hillsboro County’s newest high school is preparing for the grade.

The school is located in Wimauma off Westlake Drive.

Aquilla Jackson Morgan High School is the newest and largest high school in the county.

Schools are not only a place where students can learn and grow, but they also continue to have a heritage.

“I wanted to make sure Wimauma respected her commitment to being the first black employee and a 40-year educator dedicated to Wimauma’s children and families,” said Latoya Lovett, granddaughter of Aquilla Morgan.

“It was the families that we still have and supportive of in this community that we could celebrate life as Aquilla Jackson Morgan,” said Principal Brittney Wilhelm.

Aquilla J. Morgan’s family describes her as a transformational teacher and someone who saw the potential in every child sitting in her classroom.

“My grandmother was a woman of faith, so she wants our community to think about how heaven looks for all races. Everyone is there. Every denomination. She looks at the beautiful Wimauma community. “It’s like a flavorful, colorful bag of M&M. It doesn’t matter where we are, but where we are heading and we’re going even further together.”

Over 350,000 square feet of schools have everything you can imagine, from cutting-edge kitchens with stainless steel appliances to libraries filled with genres, to modern soccer fields for the season, and a large gym-painted orange media center that includes indoor tracks wrapped around them.

According to educators, the large school will help ease the stress of growing population in the county.

“We need to ease the population growth that is happening in South County and in our high schools.

The energy in the air is full of excitement. People are full of excitement as they say they don’t have students and staff, only families coming through the door.

“So, our family grows beautifully every day, so we’re excited,” Lovett said.

“I don’t think there’s anything similar to the first day of school. It doesn’t matter what kind of school you’re in. But it’s not a different feeling to open a brand new building and see students come in and see them in awe of something they’ve never seen before,” Wilheim said.

The high school will open its doors on August 11th on the first day of school. We expect approximately 1,500 students this year, but we have a capacity of 3,500.
