Florida shines in the latest rankings of the best city for recreational Woretub
According to a new report from Wallethub, two Florida cities, Orlando and Tampa, are one of the most recreational cities in the United States. The annual survey rated 100 most populous US cities across dozens of metrics and ranked Orlando No. 2 and Tampa No. 3 in the nation for its year-round weather, suitable for park access, affordable prices for recreational activities, and outdoor fun.
The only city to surpass both was Las Vegas. This earned an overall top spot thanks to a wide range of entertainment venues and low recreational costs.
Florida outdoor appeal
Wallethub’s rankings highlight what many Floridians already know. The city of Sunshine State offers the best opportunities in the country to stay active and entertain.
Orlando is highly regarded for its extensive amusement parks, playgrounds, golf courses and public recreational facilities. It also boasts a favorable climate that allows for outdoor activities all year round.
Just two hours away on the Gulf Coast, Tampa scored with an extensive network of parks, access to water-based recreation such as kayaking and boating, and relatively low cost of fitness and recreation services.
Together, two Florida cities reflect the state’s investment in a living and active lifestyle.
Methodology
Wallethub’s 2025 report compared cities across 47 key metrics grouped into four main categories.

Entertainment & Recreation Facilities Cost (Gym Membership and Park Rates, etc.) Park Quality Weather
Each metric is scored on a 100-point scale with a higher score reflecting the recreational criteria.
A city that is struggling to catch up
While Florida’s cities were shining, other cities were behind. Cities such as Fort Wayne, Indiana, Newark, Chula Vista, New Jersey, and Chula Vista, California ranked near the bottom due to limited access to public recreation and low amenities and low climatic conditions.
Recreation and quality of life
Experts note that a strong recreational infrastructure contributes to improved physical and mental health, increased community engagement, and economic vitality.
“Cities investing in accessible parks and low-cost recreational activities will help build stronger and healthier communities,” said Jill Gonzalez, analyst at Walthub.
With the Orlando and Tampa rankings so high, Florida continues to insist on being one of the most active and recreational states in the country.
