Volusia County officials aim to quickly track I-4 improvement projects

Deverly, Fla. (WFLA) – The Florida Department of Transport is committed to a “over the ultimate I-4” project, but for travelers between Volsia and Seminole counties, improvements will not be fast enough.

The I-4 stretch in northeastern Florida has been a consistent headache for drivers, with many complaining that the upgrade has been delayed for a long time. In particular, the St. John’s River Bridge is a prominent problem, with I-4 demanding speeding up the lanes to alleviate crowds. However, the exact location of the new lane has not yet been established.

On Tuesday, the city of Deltona commissioner voted to send a letter to the state urging the department to quickly track I-4 upgrades for that area, according to NBC affiliate WESH.

Progress was slow as there was an original overview of the department based on data from 2011, and we had to redo the plan using updated traffic data for 2022.

FDOT has yet to release a definitive timeline for construction in Borussia and Seminole counties.
