TITSVILLE, Fla. (WFLA) — A heartwarming rescue unfolded from the Brevard County coast after dolphins swimming with their calves were found to be intertwined with a crab trap line.

According to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office, Leo Cross, a volunteer at the Hubs SeaWorld Research Institute, discovered the Bottlenorth Dolphin just south of A. Max Brewer Causeway in Titusville.

Leo called the sheriff’s office to help after realising the dolphins appeared to be in pain. Leo and his team then attempt to catch the dolphins while the rescuers were on the boat.

Video provided by the sheriff’s office was shown when the team was finally able to get a dolphin next to their boat. We could see the rope wrapped around the dolphin’s tail.

Although some attempts were required, the team was able to eventually cut off the rope and free the dolphins. They then saw the dolphin swim in her calves.

The sheriff’s office said rescuers monitored the dolphin for a short period of time to make sure she was breathing normally and swiming.

The team also removed crab traps and ropes from the water to prevent other marine creatures from being injured.

“I’ve always said that we need a community to protect our community. This is not only a perfect example of how true that statement is, but it’s also “good!!”
