Kayle Barrington Bates was convicted in 1982 of the murder of Lenny White of Lynhaven. She was 23 at the time.

According to the Nexstar Sister Station WMBB, Bates attacked White while working at a local insurance office. Authorities said Bates, a paper delivery man at the time, had targeted a young woman after giving birth to her office earlier.

White tried to fight back, but Bates stabs her twice with a hunting knife, dragging her body into the wooded area behind the insurance office.

In 1983, the ju judge found Bates guilty of first-degree murder, and the judge sentenced him to death.

On July 18, 2025, Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a warrant for Bates. The murderer’s execution is scheduled for August 19, 2025 at 6pm
