A Florida music teacher was charged with abuse in two separate cases

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (WFLA) — The Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office says a music teacher who worked at multiple Duval County schools was arrested last week and charged with abuse.

Greg Gafford, 42, was charged in two separate cases, one in 2011 and one in 2023, apart.

Gafford reported that while working at St. Matthew Catholic School in 2023, the JSO said the child sought them in the after-school club.

In 2011, while working at Normandy Village Elementary School, another child accused him of sexual abuse. It is unclear whether the charges were investigated at the time or whether the investigation took place.

Gafford was arrested last Friday and charged with two counts of indecent or lewd abuse. Both were charged as felony of life. Life felony is reserved for the most terrible crimes and has the potential to be life sentence without parole.

“Children are our most valuable resources and protecting them is our number one priority,” JSO wrote on Facebook. “Anyone who violates safety will face the full weight of the law.”

Detectives investigating the case are investigating whether Gafford committed a crime against another student. Anyone with Gafford or any information about this investigation will be asked to contact JSO at (904) 630-0500 or jsocrimetips@jaxsheriff.org.
