ORLANDO, Fla. (WFLA) – The Orlando family has found that the Delta flight they were on has been stuck on the island for 29 hours after being forced to make an emergency landing.

According to NBC affiliate WESH, the plane from Madrid to New York was redirected to land on the Azores, a small island in the Atlantic, and began experiencing airborne engine problems.

Passenger Maria Isabel told reporters that she was surrounded by armed soldiers when she left the aircraft and left to find her accommodation.

The next day, the passengers were placed on a new aircraft and flew to JFK. There, Isabelle and her two children spent another night at the airport.

Isabel told reporters that Delta was offering a $600 refund for each ticket purchase, but she told her it wasn’t comparing it to the overall cost.

Delta issued a statement to NBC apologizing to its customers for the inconvenience this may have caused.
