MIAMI (WFLA) – When Mike Santiagu saw Antoin Johnson, he knew something was wrong.
“When I closed my eyes with him, I knew the situation was serious,” Santiag said.
According to NBC affiliate WTVJ, Miami-Dade’s agent is allegedly because Johnson went to the woman’s bathroom at Gwenchery Park in Miami and tricked her into raping an 11-year-old girl. He then followed her and attacked the child, investigators said.
However, an eyewitness went into the bathroom and saw the crime. Johnson then attempted to escape while witnesses chased him.
“(She said) he stopped him, he raped this girl,” Santiag said.
Santiagu and several others chased the suspect as he tried to escape the park to a nearby neighborhood.
“He was jumping over the gate and got caught up in the back of the house and at that point he cornered him,” Santiag said.
The group then restrained Johnson until the agent arrived.
Santiag said he saw the girl’s mother after the attack.
“She was very upset and hurt,” he said. “The words can’t even explain the expression on her face because she didn’t even seem to be there.”
WTVJ reported that Christina White, director of Miami-Dade County Parks, issued a statement saying that the safety of park visitors is a top priority and that she is “deeply saddened” by the attack at Gwenchery Park.
“Our hearts come to the victims and their families. We wish them a full recovery during these incredibly difficult times,” the statement read.
