st. PETERSBURG, Fla. (WFLA) – Officials at St. Pete Clearwater International Airport are sending messages to and from the airport as parking is very limited and fills up quickly.
Summer trips are in full swing, and airport officials say they feel the squeeze in unexpected ways.
“Our last five months have been a record-breaking month for traffic. We only have 3,200 parking spaces. We really want our passengers to reach our destination. No one wants to miss a flight.”
Donna Murphy says she has realised that growth is seeking better parking solutions. She chooses a ride-sharing service and encourages others to do the same.
“I would recommend you ride. You know, you get on and get off immediately. It’s really easy here. I love this airport.
Other passengers also seemed to agree to ride sharing as the best option.
“I don’t have a car. There are no buses at this airport that actually take you here, so you have to do Uber or you need to have your own transportation, so I’m a bit worried about it, I hope they expand that way.”
Airport officials say some passengers had booked flights last week, causing unexpected overcrowding in the parking lot.
“The parking space may disappear over the weekend, especially Thursday to Sunday, and if possible, you can get on,” Routh said.
Here is hope on the horizon. There, clear signs of expansion are apparent.
“The parking garage is ongoing. In fact, we’re receiving all the suggestions,” says Routh.
But that’s something passengers will have to wait to see until 2028. Airport officials say they’ll keep it in mind now throughout Labor Day. The airport will continue to see passenger growth as it goes through its peak summer travel season.
