The distance on the busy road near President Trump’s Mar Arago Resort in Palm Beach, Florida, quickly managed to embrace his name.
The Palm Beach County commissioner will vote for a resolution Tuesday evening to designate Mar Arago and four-mile South Boulevard, with the honorary sign as “President Donald J. Trump Boulevard.”
The Florida Legislature approved the designation earlier this year, signed by Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) last month, but local approval is required for the honorary designation to come into effect.
White House spokesman Taylor Rogers said in a statement to the Hill that the president pays homage to the designation. Trump has officially changed his residence from New York, born in 2019, to Florida.
“Florida’s great states honor President Donald J. Trump, the beautiful Mar-a-Lago club, the state’s long-standing staple food in the sunshine state,” Rogers said. “Renaming this path to “Donald J. Trump Boulevard” commemorates his iconic legacy and the historically important moment that made this president the most ever. โ
“The President is always grateful to the Floridians for their unwavering support as Magazine Loyalists. He voted for him three times,” she added.
The road will retain its South Boulevard moniker for official purposes, including personal addresses and emergency services, but the privately run Google Maps service has already integrated a new name honoring Trump. If approved Tuesday evening, the Florida Department of Transport will move forward with new signs in the coming weeks.
The roads designated by Trump run through West Palm Beach and Palm Beach. Neither city has acquired official status by changing its name.
Since being first elected in 2016, several state and local governments have moved to rename the road in Trump’s honor.
An analysis from USA Today in January shows lawmakers from Arizona, Kentucky and Missouri switched names for the highways to mark the 45th and 47th presidents since re-election last fall.
