FLAGRAR COUNTY, Fla. (WFLA) – A Florida man was arrested after lawmakers said they tried to steal nearly $1,500 in goods from Lowe and escaped to the back of a UPS truck.

The sheriff’s office said the suspect, identified as 31-year-old Michael Darvatha, tried to steal items from Palm Coastrow on July 3, but left them abandoned the items and ran before deputies arrived.

A while later, deputies said they received a call from someone who saw the man riding behind a UPS truck on Palm Coast Parkway.

The UPS driver stopped the truck and told the man to get off near Rupiah Courthouse, the sheriff’s office said.

Detectives from the Sheriff’s Office Issues Regional Crime Enforcement Unit and the Real-Time Crime Center have tracked the suspect’s movements and said they have established that the man behind the truck is a Davatha.

87 people, man fatally injured in a truck while trying to save a turtle on the Florida Highway: Trooper

Daversa was arrested and charged with shoplifting. He is taken to Sheriff Perry Hall’s prisoner detention facility, where he is held on $15,000 bonds.

“We were able to get this burglar off the street because the citizens were looking at something and saying something,” Sheriff Rick Staley said. “He tried to escape with a UPS truck but instead got a free same-day delivery to the Green Roof Inn.”
