Indian River County, Fla. (WFLA) – The 87-year-old man from Vermont passed away Sunday after being attacked by a truck while trying to save a turtle on a Florida highway, Florida Highway Patrol said.
The Troopers said the 87-year-old man was moving south in the middle lane of Interstate 95 just north of County Route 512 in Sebastian around 4:20pm, when he was crossing the southbound lane to retrieve a turtle from the road.
Miami woman with a black Mazda CX-9 slowed down to avoid attacking the man, but Port St. Lucie man with a Dodge 3500 pickup truck couldn’t slow the truck down in time and hit the back of a Miami woman’s car, FHP said.
