A Gaines County, Florida resident is charged with federal charges allegedly trafficking methamphetamine, according to the U.S. Lawyer’s Office for the Northern District of Florida.

Ronald Carl Peavy II, 49, of Old Town, has been accused of owning it with the intention of distributing more than 50 grams of methamphetamine. If convicted, Peavy faces the biggest potential life sentence in federal prison.

Peavy is scheduled to be arrested in federal court in Gainesville on July 1 at 2:15pm before U.S. Magistrate Judge Midori A. Lowry.

The case comes from an investigation led by the Drug Enforcement Department and the Dixie County Sheriff’s Office. US lawyers James A. McCain and Adam Hapner are indicting the case.

The accusations are part of Take Back America, a national initiative by the U.S. Department of Justice that aims to combat drug trafficking, to dismantle cross-border criminal organizations and address violent crime. The initiative combines the efforts of the Organized Crime Drug Enforcement Task Force (OCDETF) and Project Safe Neaverients.

Authorities stressed that the indictment was a formal charge, not evidence of guilt. Peavy is presumed to be innocent unless otherwise proven in court.
