ORLANDO, Fla. (WFLA) – A Central Florida Sheriff, suspended Thursday, has been released from prison three weeks after being accused of profiting from an illegal gambling operation.

Marcos Lopez, who was suspended by Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis after his arrest, ran out of the Lake County Jail and did not speak to reporters, according to NBC affiliate WESH.

He was placed behind bars on June 5th and charged with assault and conspiracy to commit a conspiracy. Prosecutors claimed Lopez had benefited from an illegal gambling operation dating back to 2019, generating more than $21 million in profits.
