DeSantis talks about our strikes about Iran

Clearwater, Fla. (WFLA) – Gov. Ron DeSantis briefly spoke about the US strike over Iran’s nuclear facility over the weekend at a press conference Monday.

“The president is very consistent. He was also right that US policy was that Iran cannot have nuclear weapons,” he said.

The US has used a 30,000-pound “bunkerbuster” bomb to target underground uranium enrichment facilities in Fordo, Natanz and Esfahan.

DeSantis said one reason the US must prevent Iran’s nuclear development is that “no country is more hostile to the United States.” He mentioned the hostage crisis in 1979, the bombing of Marine Barracks in Lebanon in 1983, and the attack on Cobalt Tower in 1996.

“The terrorism we see in the Middle East is whether it’s Houtis, whether it’s Hezbollah, whether it’s Hamas, whether it’s all Iran’s fault,” DeSantis said. “Iran funds terrorism around the world, and they are sponsors of major national terrorism around the world.”

He also said that unlike during the Cold War, he does not believe that the concept of “mutually guaranteed destruction” applies to Iranian leaders.

“The problem with Iran is that these are extremist Shia Muslims,” he said. “They have a very apocalyptic and radical ideology.”

DeSantis also mentioned the state’s efforts to evacuate American citizens from the region, saying flights from Israel to Florida are still ongoing.
